Welcome to RGV.media!

Hello there! I’m excited to introduce RGV.media - the soon-to-be source of stories about what makes our region special. I want to bring stories about the people of the RGV in multiple forms of media. Whatever format we can use to capture the heart and soul of the RGV, we’ll do it: written, podcast, photos, or video.
RGV.media is a new venture that has roots from many years ago when blogging first kicked off. Back then, I used to run RGV-Life.com, which was more of a hobby than a business. While attending UTPA (now UT-RGV), it was easy to access some of the movers and shakers of Hidalgo County, especially during election season. At that time podcasts and online video were not as easy to distribute as they are today. RGV-Life.com opened up many opportunities and connections, which ironically disconnected me from blogging.

Recently, I bumped into an old acquaintance who suggested that I should bring back RGV-Life. I graciously said I'd think about it. And the idea took root.

RGV.media is a bit more ambitious in that the intent is to cover more of the RGV than just Hidalgo County. The RGV has history, culture, hidden gems, local heroes, and stories to be told. For breaking news, you have the TV channels, radio, newspapers, and social media. There is a certain quality you can expect from corporate media. That’s not what RGV.media offers. This is more about oral histories than gotcha news. It's about gratitude for the good things and good people we have.

What will set RGV.media apart from other media is the inclusion of insightful interviews, thought-provoking discussions, and ongoing conversations. RGV.media’s style will not be the 5-minute video clip. Nope. You can expect longer interviews. There’s no programming here. There is no demographic. It’s just content.

In the meantime, be sure to follow RGV.media on X for updates and some back and forth discussions.
Writing this blog post is a bit of a struggle between the "me" and "we". On the one hand, it's a one-man operation. On the other hand, the goal is to have a team. The "we" is not meant to make RGV.media seem like a big operation. It's more of a stretch goal.

It is expected that there will be some criticism for choosing Blogger.com to host the RGV.media website. It is not for lack of technical knowledge. From experience, most CMS products undergo updates that end up breaking their themes. And then there is the constant threat of having your custom setup hacked. Dealing with computers all day, the last thing I want to do is have to fix a broken website. It's a distraction from the work of creating content. And appearance ultimately doesn't matter as most readers will be using their phone or tablet to read a post or watch a video.

Another reason for choosing Blogger to host RGV.media is that there is a mobile app that makes it easy to post from anywhere. Sometimes all you need is a photo and a quick description. Or sometimes it helps to be able to write while on the go. This isn't rocket surgery. It's sharing discoveries about the community in which we live.

I hope you will visit often and be a part of this new adventure. There are stories to be told.
