COVID-19 Updates for 2020-06-22

Hidalgo County has posted updates regarding the latest COVID-19 pandemic numbers. The total number of positive cases is at 1,882. That number includes 193 more people who have tested positive. The County reports one patient from Pharr in his 70s has lost the fight against COVID-19.

Of the positive cases, there are currently 146 people who have been hospitalized. Of those cases, 15 are being treated in intensive care units. Of the previously mentioned 1,882 positive cases, only 1,120 positive cases are active. Twenty-three people have left isolation after being symptom-free for 10 days. A total of 2,489 cases are still pending test results, which could potentially increase the number of active cases dramatically if they turn out positive.

Judge Richard Cortez expresses alarm at the increased rate of infection. There is also word that an employee at the tax office in Mission learned that he tested positive on Friday. The employee has isolated. The office was sanitized over the weekend. The office is following all recommended procedures to continue serving the public. This includes Plexiglass barriers, temperature monitoring, hand sanitizer, and physical distancing.
